The cold winter temperatures are a reminder that the second semester has arrived! While seniors are wrapping up their college application process, juniors are just beginning. We have 3 tips to help you get started:

1) Make a Plan for Test Taking — This semester is the time to start taking the SAT and/or ACT exam, as well as the SAT Subject Tests. The remaining SAT test dates are in March (SAT only), May, and June, and the ACT will also be offered on several dates this semester. Pick the test dates that are right for you and then decide how it is best to prepare. Do you want to sign up for a test prep class, one-on-one tutoring, or just study on your own? Now is the time to start asking these questions.

2) Develop Your College List — With 5 semesters of high school grades and a PSAT score, getting to work on your college list should be a priority. It is important to consider where you can get in but also where you will be happy, both personally and academically. Make an appointment with your high school counselor to start discussing your college options. P&A is of course always happy to help as well.

3) Start Visiting Colleges — The best time to see a college campus is when school is in session. Experiencing a college’s culture and community is essential in order to best determine if a college is the right fit. Prospective families can participate in admission office campus tours and information sessions. In addition, students may be able to sit in on classes, go to lunch and stay overnight in a dorm with a current college student, and interview at the admission office.
